Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) accounts for approximately 14.38% of national mortality in Indonesia and was recorded as the most prevalent case at RSUD Welas Asih in 2024, with 17,856 patient visits. Prevention of CHD depends not only on clinical management but also on the involvement of family members as the primary support system of the patient. CERDIK education, developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, provides a structured approach to modifiable risk-factor control through six pillars: regular health check-ups, avoiding cigarette smoke, regular physical activity, healthy and balanced diet, adequate rest, and stress management. This study aimed to analyze the effect of CERDIK education on the knowledge of families of CHD patients regarding CHD prevention at the Cardiology Polyclinic of RSUD Welas Asih. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test–post-test approach. The population consisted of 372 family members of CHD patients over a one-week period, and 39 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Knowledge was measured using a validated 16-item questionnaire (r > 0.339; p < 0.05) with high reliability (Cronbach's α = 0.872). Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately; because the data were not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used with α = 0.05. Before the intervention, most respondents were in the sufficient category (69.2%), while the good category was 20.5% and the poor category 10.3%. After the intervention, the good category increased to 87.2%, the sufficient category dropped to 12.8%, and no respondents remained in the poor category. The mean knowledge score increased from 11.08 ± 2.07 to 15.33 ± 1.08, with a mean difference of 4.25 and a gain score of 0.47 (moderate category). The Wilcoxon test yielded p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that CERDIK education significantly improves the knowledge of families of CHD patients regarding CHD prevention and is feasible to be implemented as a routine promotive and preventive program at the Cardiology Polyclinic of RSUD Welas Asih.
