Social anxiety is characterized by fear or anxiety in social situations due to concerns about negative evaluation by others. Among Generation Z university students, Instagram use intensity and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) may be associated with social anxiety. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Instagram use intensity, FoMO, and social anxiety among 135 students at Politeknik Kesehatan Megarezky, Makassar City. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design. Instagram use intensity was measured using the Social Media Use Integration Scale (SMUIS), FoMO using the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMOS), and social anxiety using a 24-item instrument. Spearman’s rank correlation was used for primary analysis, with multiple linear regression as an additional analysis. Bivariate analysis showed that Instagram use intensity and FoMO were significantly associated with social anxiety. However, regression analysis showed that Instagram use intensity was no longer significant after FoMO was included (p = 0.172), while FoMO remained significantly and most strongly associated with social anxiety. Regression results were interpreted cautiously because residual normality was not met (p = 0.020). These findings indicate statistical associations rather than causal relationships.
