Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, necessitating effective transmission prevention efforts through the implementation of proper respiratory hygiene practices. Objective: This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and respiratory hygiene-based tuberculosis transmission prevention practices at Klinik Utama Kesehatan Paru Masyarakat Kelas A. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach involving 114 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: Most respondents had a good level of knowledge, totaling 112 respondents (98.2%), and a good category of TB transmission prevention practices, totaling 101 respondents (88.6%). The statistical test results showed a significant correlation between knowledge and respiratory hygiene-based TB transmission prevention practices (p<0.001) with a correlation coefficient of r=0.322, indicating a positive relationship with weak-to-moderate strength. Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between knowledge and respiratory hygiene-based TB transmission prevention practices. Higher levels of patient knowledge correspond to better practices in preventing TB transmission.
