Diabetic ulcers are open wounds on the surface of the skin caused by macroangiopathy, resulting in vascular insufficiency and neuropathy. Diabetic ulcers occur due to damage to nerves and blood vessels due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels so that the condition gets worse. The bacteria commonly isolated from diabetic ulcer infections are Gram-positive and Gram-negative. The research entitled identification of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria in diabetic ulcers in the Bunda Thamrin Medan Clinical Laboratory aims to identify the presence or absence of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria, as well as to find out which bacteria are the main contaminants in diabetic ulcers. The presence of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria that are left without further action, resulting in nerve damage that extends to the bones can lead to amputation. This type of research is descriptive and qualitative with the method of isolation and identification of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria. The results of the research from 20 samples carried out, there were samples with positive results for the presence of Gram negative bacteria, namely Klebsiella pneumoniae as many as 7 (35%) were identified, and the bacteria which were the main pollutant were samples with positive results for Gram positive bacteria, namely Staphylococcus sp as many as 11 (55%) identified. Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria occur due to the presence of a microorganism in tissue or body fluids that are contaminated due to open wounds and are dominant through environmental factors.
