Refractive errors are a major cause of visual impairment among medical students and require appropriate knowledge, attitudes, and practices for effective management. This study aims to compare the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of medical students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts at the Faculty of Medicine, Hang Tuah University, Surabaya, regarding refractive error correction. This analytic observational study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 140 active medical students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts were recruited using quota sampling. Data were collected through a validated self-administered online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Comparative analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney U test with a significance level of α < 0.05. The results demonstrated a statistically significant difference in knowledge levels between the two cohorts (p < 0.001), with students from the 2022 cohort exhibiting higher knowledge scores. However, no significant differences were observed in attitudes (p = 0.086) or practices (p = 0.891) between the two groups. Although the majority of students exhibited positive attitudes toward refractive error correction, preventive and corrective practices in both cohorts remained suboptimal.
